Dermot Kennedy brought his 2023 "Sonder" Tour to MGM Music Hall at Fenway for a second sold out show in Boston on June 17th. Celebrating the release of his most recent album, aptly titled Sonder, Kennedy has been traveling across the world to perform his heartfelt anthems to thousands of adoring fans. From the moment the lights went out and the audience started cheering, Kennedy's dedication to making his songs and creative process come to life was on full display as handwritten messages were carved out across the big screens, instantly captivating the entire crowd. With strikingly imaginative visuals accompanying each song, Kennedy soared through fan favorites like "Blossom", "Power Over Me", "Young & Free", and "Glory." About mid-set, Kennedy then took the time to perform a few stripped back songs with just him at the piano. Although he let the music do most of the talking for him up until this point, Kennedy opened up about the inspirations behind "Rome" and "Innocence and Sadness" and emphasized how at the end of the day, he just hopes his music can help people feel the deepest of emotions and reminded them to hold onto the memories that breathe meaning into life. Ending the night on a positive note, Kennedy got everyone up and dancing on their feet for "Better Days", "Kiss Me", and "Something to Someone."
For an artist who effortlessly captures the perils of love, loss, heartbreak, and everything in between in his music, it was only natural for everyone in the audience to walk away in pure awe of the performance they had just witnessed, while leaving many to wonder when their favorite songwriter might return to Boston again.
