Guster kicked off GoodWorks Entertainment's Hartford Live free outdoor concert series this past Wednesday, August 9, outside of the Old State House in Hartford, Connecticut.

The concert marked not only the beginning of the Hartford Live series, but the last show of Guster's Hello Mr. Sun tour before they head to Portland, Maine for their annual On The Ocean weekend of music and festivities.

Karina Rykman opened the show with a 45-minute set of her blended jam rock and indie pop, lighting up the stage with her sparkling presence and the effervescence of a band deeply in tune with each other

Guster then took the stage, and despite being at the tail end of a run of nine shows preceding On The Ocean, the band delivered a performance packed full of energy. The show marked a homecoming for drummer Brian "Thunder God" Rosenworcel, who grew up in West Hartford before meeting bandmates Ryan Miller, Adam Gardner, and Luke Reynolds at Tufts University. The sixteen song setlist was introduced with a gorgeous wash of golden hour backlighting, filled with the joyous presence and hilarious stage banter Guster is known for, and capped off with a most special honor; the city of Hartford's Deputy Chief of Staff Nick Simmons delivered a statement from none of than Governor Ned Lamont, formally declaring today to be Guster Day.
