College Street Music Hall presents: Lucy Dacus September 30th, 2022, in New Haven, Connecticut.

New Haven was the second stop on Lucy Dacus' final US tour for her 2021 record Home Video, and she certainly made sure to give the album a worthy sendoff. "Triple Dog Dare" was a perfect set opener, starting more subdued before rising to an intense guitar solo. She made sure to pay homage to her previous music, including audience request "Yours & Mine" from 2018's Historian and "I Don't Wanna Be Funny Anymore" off 2016's NoBurden. Sprinkled in were a few covers, including an original take on Cher's "Believe" and Carole King's "Home Again," the latter of which appearing on Dacus' recent homage to King released on Spotify only days prior. A highlight of the set was the hauntingly beautiful, funeral-procession-like "Thumbs," received well by a somewhat awestruck audience, deeply reverent of Dacus' powerful lyricism while singing along with a desperation unique to a music fan hearing their experiences related by another. Upbeat tunes "Brando" and "Going Going Gone" lifted the crowd's spirits back up before closing the set with "Night Shift," another climactic, slow-building track ending with a cathartic sing along. Dacus ended her encore by debuting a new song, which she kindly requested the audience not record, to which they of course obliged. Dacus' expert storytelling capabilities expressed through song wove an emotional and deeply therapeutic night for all in the room, and we look forward to where her next musical endeavor takes her - hopefully back to Connecticut!
