In the midst of their 40+ date North American tour, grandson and K.Flay stopped through New Haven, Connecticut for a performance on Friday, June 2. The tour arrives on the heels of grandson's latest record, I Love You, I'm Trying, released just over a month ago, and features direct support from K.Flay. DE'WAYNE joined the duo for the first leg of the tour, with New Haven marking his last stop - and he for sure went out with a bang, performing to a packed venue with overflowing energy that never waned for a moment, K.Flay followed with a captivated and emotionally charged set, including songs such as "Weirdo," "Blood in the Cut," "Make Me Fade," and "High Enough." She also performed two currently unreleased tracks, "Shy" and "Punisher." She left the audience with a hopeful message preceding her song "Maybe There's A Way," detailing her recent struggles including the sudden loss of hearing in one of her ears and the grief and darkness that followed. grandson began an exhilarating set making sure his audience knew to keep each other safe while they had a great time at his first ever performance in Connecticut (save for a solo rap show in Hartford when he was just 19), before jumping right into songs like "Oh No!!!," "When The bomb Goes," and "Stick Up." He also performed a new song called "Half My Heart," and made sure to get the audience involved for "Dirty" with a little friendly competition. K.Flay joined him on stage for "Zen," a song the two wrote with X Ambassadors, and their shared track "Peaches." He joked about how the two of them, such good friends, would be the next James Taylor and Carole King. He then jumped straight into the crowd for a toned down, emotional rendition of "Heather," dedicating the song to those who had lost their lives to addiction or mental health struggles, before closing out the evening with "Blood // Water." Though this marked both artists' first show in New Haven, we hope they'll come back many times over in the future!
